concert hall
This design studio requests a concert hall containing three halls of different dimensions, that are acoustically separated from one another and can be used at once. Even during the break another ongoing concert in one of the other halls should not be disturbed by the noise in the foyer.
A ribbon arises from the ground, that spreads in depth and height. The floor becomes the wall, which in turn becomes the ceiling. Thus it creates the approaching area of the building, becomes the interior of the entrance hall and forms the main foyer. Lastly it shapes tree slanted frames of different dimensions, each of them pointing in another direction. The main foyer hall is the nexus of those three frames and attracts the visitor downstairs, in order to immerse them into a musical experience. The comfort of the foyer‘s deepness symbolises the silence in which everyone holds their breath right before the conductor raises his baton and the first note rings out.
Steel square framed work beams overdraw each frame in cross direction. The columns are hidden inside of the walls of the corridors on the outside of each frame, whereas the beams are visible on the ceiling and define the architectural space.
The main foyer is divided into four bolts of different dimensions and is carried by columns arranged alongside each bolt. The load is transferred from one bolt to another until it reaches the base. Reinforcement is achieved through hauling ropes spreading throughout the ceiling and walls to the very left and right of each bolt.
The artist‘s changing room and rehearsal halls are located underneath each concert hall, providing fast access to the stage.
